Naturewise Columbus began in March 2024 with a straightforward idea. We wanted to create a local nature magazine for children and make sure cost was never a barrier to reading it.

That idea became Ribbit! We spent the spring and summer developing the magazine, finding contributors and connecting with organizations that already served children and families. In September 2024, the first issue was published and distributed in Columbus.

Ribbit! has grown quickly since then, largely because of the people and organizations that welcomed it into their classrooms, libraries, nature centers and community spaces. Educators and community partners have shared the magazine with children, requested additional copies and helped us reach new parts of Columbus and Franklin County.

The magazine has grown, but the reason behind it has not changed. Ribbit! remains free, locally focused and made to help children read, explore science and become more familiar with the natural world close to home.
