Did you know? Columbus has a free nature magazine for children!

Columbus is home to beautiful natural spaces, but nature disconnection is growing concern in our modern world, particularly amongst urban children and youth.
Ribbit! Magazine is here to bridge that gap, celebrating and teaching our young readers about Columbus’ rich natural environment. It brings children closer to local nature through educational articles, fun STEM content, and a focus on the important conservation work happening in our community. Plus, it’s created with the whole family in mind!

We produce Ribbit! in partnership with established institutions and organizations to provide a magazine that is embedded in the local environmental education system and includes seasonally and locally relevant content. The magazine is available online at www.ribbitmagazine.com. We print physical copies for our community outreach and distribute them to libraries, nature centers, recreation centers and many other public places throughout Columbus so that the magazine can reach children and families across the city!

Every issue of Ribbit contains 32 pages filled with engaging articles,
colorful visuals, and fun puzzles.
It explores:

Columbus Nature
& Environment

By fostering curiosity and learning about our local flora, fauna, and ecosystems, a child is able to build a strong environmental identity. This leads to increased interest in science, environmental studies, and related fields.

STEM Learning

Through connecting nature to STEM, children gain an understanding of how natural sciences intersect with technology, innovation, and modern life.

Community Insights
& Resources

Sharing resources and opportunities for community involvement helps children learn about what local environmental organizations are doing and how they can get engaged.

“As Columbus is experiencing remarkable growth and innovation, it is essential that we help children to develop a strong environmental identity. This enriches their hearts and minds and enables them to become their best selves, striving in an ever-changing world.”
